Warm pool variability and heat flux change in the global oceans
Description: The warm pools in the tropical oceans serve as thermal engines to drive the ocean circulation and the atmosphere circulation. The results of this study reveal that the warm pool areas increase at an interdecadal scale and their sizes fluctuate during El Niño events. This implies that those thermal engines are getting more powerful and more fluctuated, and so do the ocean circulation and the atmosphere circulation. This could be a potential reason for recent extreme weather events. [Source: Global and Planetary Change]
