Coastal Mediterranean plankton stimulation dynamics through a dust storm event: An experimental simulation
Description: Researchers in this paper study the biological response of coastal surface waters to dust additions. Dust effects are compared to those induced by equivalent enrichments of phosphate. They assess the potential interaction between dust pulses and small-scale turbulence. Shifts within the planktonic community were found to be dust dose-dependent. Dust effects were related to the release of phosphate, silicate and organic carbon. [Source: Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science]
