The passive and active nature of ocean heat uptake in idealized climate change experiments
Description: This study explores the influence of ocean circulation changes on heat uptake using a simply-configured primitive equation ocean model resembling a very idealized Atlantic Ocean. The researchers focused on the relative importance of the redistribution of the existing heat reservoir (due to changes in the circulation) and the contribution from anomalous surface heat flux, in experiments in which the surface boundary conditions are changed.
