Palaeoclimate: Tahitian record suggests Antarctic collapse
Description: The exact origin, timing and amplitude of a rapid period of sea-level rise known as meltwater pulse 1A, about 14,500 years ago, have remained unclear. This article presents an analysis of coral samples from Tahiti that delivers answers to some of those questions. The results are based on fossils collected during the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Expedition 310, which cored 37 boreholes from sites off the island's northern, western and southern coasts.
