Researchers examined the sedimentary record produced by strong ocean currents commonly called MOW (Mediterranean outflow water) through the Gibraltar gateway. Examination of core samples extracted near the Strait of Gibraltar show definitive proof of shifts in climate change since about six million years ago, and also provide new evidence of a deep-earth tectonic pulse in the region.
