Scientists studied the amplification of diurnal tides over the continental slope between the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea in this research article. They found diurnal topographic waves bring cold intermediate water up to the shelf break. The diurnal oscillations were confined to the steep and diverging topography west of Tromsøflaket. They found topographic waves an effective mechanism for cross slope exchange between the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea. [Source: Deep Sea Research Part I: Oceanographic Research Papers]
