New insights in the pattern and timing of the Early Jurassic calcareous nannofossil crisis
Description:
In this study quantitative estimates are made of calcareous nannofossil abundance and size, and of biogenic calcium carbonate production across the Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event in the Early Jurassic period. Insight is gained into the pace and timing of the biocalcification crisis. The biocalcification crisis may be induced by impact of a global warming. A biological pump deficiency as complementary cause is proposed to explain a negative carbon-isotope excursion. [Source: Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology]
