Distribution and ventilation of water masses in the western Ross Sea inferred from CFC measurements
Description: In this study scientists obtained hydrographic and CFCs observations in the Ross Sea in austral summer 2001. CFCs were under saturated in Antarctic Surface Waters except in few stations near Ross Island. The shelf waters were 65-70% equilibrium with the CFC concentration in the atmosphere. Shelf Waters with high CFCs were detected in the western Ross Sea on the down slope. A residence time of the shelf waters of about 6-7 years was estimated.
