Description: |
The "biological pump" is the way that photosynthetically-produced carbon is exported from the surface to depth in the ocean. Components include zooplankton fecal pellets, marine snow, phytoplankton detritus, and dissolved organic carbon. In the last decade there have been hundreds of papers published on various aspects of the biological pump. This paper reviews studies of the biological pump over the last decade.
