A National Weather Service buoy recorded water temperatures off Monterey Bay at 64 degrees Sunday. The average for this time of year is 55 to 56 degrees. Scientists believe the warmer water is part of the warm blob that's been sticking around since 2014. The blob of water stretches all the way from the Gulf of Alaska down the coastline of North America to the Baja Peninsula, and extends an estimated 1,000 miles out to sea. [Source: KSBW (Monterey)]
