El Niño in Pacific could mean mild Michigan winter
Description: The relatively slight bump in temperatures from winter norms an El Niño could bring, doesn't necessarily spell an easy winter for the Oakland County road commission in Michigan. Big snow storms are easy: the agency sends out its fleet of plow trucks; motorists are expecting snow- and ice-covered roads; and they drive particularly carefully or stay off the roads. It's when the temperatures are right at the freezing point - when people aren't expecting icy roads, but they can ice up in a short period of time if the temperature drops a degree or two - when it's a tough call on whether to send out the plow trucks and salt-spreaders.
