NASA and NOAA Announce Ozone Hole is a Double Record Breaker
Description: Scientists report that from September 21-30, 2006 the average area of the ozone hole over Antarctica was the largest ever observed. This severe hole resulted from the very high ozone depleting substance levels and record cold conditions in the stratosphere. Although concentrations of ozone-depleting substances have been decreasing, the long lifetimes of these substances enable them to persist in the atmosphere. [Source: NASA]
