Quinault Indian Nation plans for village relocation
Description: The Quinault Indian Nation (QIN) reservation's main population centers are both located at the confluence of the Pacific Ocean and the rivers on which they lie. In March 2014, the seawall that protects one of those centers was breached by storm surge, flooding the lower portion of the village. With support from the community, QIN leadership made a difficult decision: they would begin planning to relocate the lower portion of the village of Taholah to higher ground. Efforts were initiated to develop a relocation master plan. [Source: NOAA Climate.gov]
