The Tiny World of Glacier Microbes Has an Outsized Impact on Global Climate
Description: This summer a research team will spend weeks surrounded by thousands of holes in an Arctic ice sheet. The team will camp miles from the closest settlement, surrounded by a landscape ripped apart by huge, unstable crevasses. The only way in or out is by helicopter. The scientists' soundscape will be reduced to the crunching of crampons across the ice, the rush of glacial streams and the occasional groan of a massive ice sheet rearranging itself.
