COSEE Ocean Systems: News
Southern California beaches get bacteria warnings after rain
Description: Southern California health officials are advising swimmers and surfers to stay out of the ocean because of runoff from a winter-like storm. The rain advisory issued for beaches comes after the late-season low-pressure system brought downpours, hail and snow to the region. Bacteria levels can increase significantly during and after rainstorms as contaminants in the runoff enter the ocean via storm drains, creeks and rivers. [Source: Monterey Herald]
