Opinion: Don't forget the Gulf dead zone
Description: As Louisiana moves ahead with the 2017 Coastal Master Plan, it's important that the state not forget a separate but related issue that affects the coast. The large area of low oxygen that forms off Louisiana's coast has come to be known as the "dead zone." It's one of the largest such areas in the world, all of which are fueled by nutrient pollution. Unlike the massive BP oil disaster of 2010, this event happens every year and reflects a trend. Unfortunately, the trend so far has been one of growth. [Source: Daily Comet (Louisiana)]
