Low-Cloud, Boundary Layer, and Sea Ice Interactions over the Southern Ocean during Winter
Description: During austral winter, active satellite retrievals from CALIPSO and ship-based measurements show a strong contrast in low-cloud fraction and boundary layer structure over Antarctic sea ice and the adjacent open ocean. The results of this study support the hypothesis of two-way interactions between the ocean surface and the atmospheric boundary layer during winter over polar oceans.[Source: Journal of Climate]
