Ocean acidification affects mussels at early life stages
Description: Mussels protect themselves against environmental disturbances and enemies through a hard, calcareous shell. Increased ocean acidification makes it difficult for organisms to form their shells. A new study shows that mussel larvae react sensitively to ocean acidification, which leads to reduced calcification rates and shell dissolution.
