Ocean carbon: A dent in the iron hypothesis
Description: New research reveals that most of the carbon from plankton blooms never reach the deep ocean. The surprising discovery deals a blow to the simplest version of the Iron Hypothesis which states global warming can be slowed by fertilizing plankton with iron in ocean regions that are iron-poor. New research methods may also help scientist better understand the workings of the ocean's biological pump. [Source: EurekaAlert]
