For this particular event, 12 informal educators were matched with 5 ocean and climate scientists from the University of New Hampshire to improve their collective understanding of Earth's major ocean - climate systems. COSEE-OS staff facilitated interactions between internationally known scientists and educators (working in aquariums, nature centers and for conservation groups) to infuse cutting-edge research topics into educational products such as concept maps that hyperlink to scientist-vetted images, video, news items, and educational resources.
Scientists' topics at this workshop ranged from the influence of watersheds on climate change, an explanation of ocean aerosol models, exploring seasonal changes in the Gulf of Maine, factors influencing ocean acidification, and the idea of observable changes in plants as an indicator for climate change.
