RIDGE 2000 Workshop: COSEE-OS Helps With Education and Outreach - 11.12.2010

From Oct 29-31, 2010, Christy Herren represented COSEE-OS at the NSF-funded Ridge 2000 (R2K) Community Meeting in Portland, OR, as part of the Education and Outreach (EO) thematic working group. Ridge 2000 is a multidisciplinary science research program focused on integrated geological and biological studies of the Earth-encircling oceanic spreading center system. The EO group - led by Liz Goehring (R2K Education and Public Outreach Coordinator), Kathy Ellins and Veronique Robigou - was tasked with both identifying new paradigms in earth system science education as well as with evaluating the past Ridge EO efforts. These efforts include in part projects such as From Local to EXtreme Environments (FLEXE), the Distinguished Lecture Series, and the Ridge Media Bank. This was an excellent opportunity to meet and work with renowned science educators and interdisciplinary scientists, as well as investigate with them future collaborations with COSEE-OS.
