Broader Impacts Workshop: Building Collaborations - 03.31.2011

A group of 20 educators from informal science centers and scientists from multiple research institutions in the New England region gathered to discuss and document guidelines for building successful Education and Public Outreach (EPO) collaborations within the framework of “Broader Impact” mandates from science funding agencies. Mark Wiley (Univ. of New Hampshire) and Steve Engstrom (Seacoast Science Center) were the COSEE-OS hosts. EPO-veterans in both the science and education communities brainstormed throughout the workshop “characteristics of successful BI collaborations”. Particular emphasis was placed on identifying and describing practical steps and strategies for developing a collaboration, ensuring relevancy, managing resources, encouraging sustainability, and incorporating evaluation in these efforts. Please contact Mark Wiley for more information on this event.
