PROGRAMS

In addition to the maps that we will create for this workshop (coming soon). I have embedded a few from previous workshops and webinars that are pertinent to the topics we may discuss.

What does Sea Surface Salinity tell us about the Global Water Cycle?
Relevant to: GRACE, Aquarius
Interactive concept map developed by Dr. Felix Landerer (NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory) for a June 2011 educator workshop.

Can Aquarius Help Understand and Predict Ocean-Ice Interactions?
Relevant to: GRACE, Aquarius
Interactive concept map developed by Dr. Dimitris Menemenlis (NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory) for a June 2011 educator workshop.

Is the Ocean going to Solve our CO2 Problem?
Relevant to: OCO-2
Consensus map created by Dr. Elizabeth Sikes (Rutgers Univ.) and graduate students during a May 2011 workshop.

Is the Ocean going to Solve our CO2 Problem?
Relevant to: OCO-2
Series of three concept maps created by Larry Mayer (UMaine) for an October 2010 webinar. Dr. Mayer talked about carbon - how it moves between air, sea and sediment in earth systems. The topic has important implications for climate change and he described carbon as a "genie in a bottle" that humans are now releasing. His series of three concept maps explained current best estimates about "standing stock" of carbon in different locations and forms, and illustrated rates of transfer between, and the residence times in, each location.

What Key Concept is Important for your Audience to know about Ocean Acidification?
Relevant to: OCO-2
Concept map created by scientist Joe Salisbury (Univ. of New Hampshire) for presentation to educators at a June 2009 workshop.

How do you Summarize the effects of Sea Surface Salinity on Ocean Circulation?
Relevant to: Aquarius
Map presented during a June 2011 webinar featuring Principal Investigator (PI) Gary Lagerloef and Project Scientist Yi Chao which addresses key scientific connections between salinity, the water cycle, ocean circulation and climate.

Using Salinity Data and Concepts in Classroom Teaching
Relevant to: Aquarius
Concept map developed about Aquarius resources for elementary, middle and high school classrooms.

How Do We Teach Ocean Concepts in the High School Earth Science Classroom?
Relevant to: Aquarius
Concept map presented during April 2012 webinar by Ted Taylor, Bangor High School, on how to engage 9th graders in Earth Science courses using hands-on activities and labs.
