Effects of eddies on Bay of Bengal cyclone intensity
Description: Predicting cyclone intensities in the Indian Ocean has been a challenging problem. The variability of the bathymetry of the Indian coast can skew the predictions of land fall resulting in variable storm surge height. In addition to atmospheric parameters and sea surface temperature, upper ocean heat storage reflected in oceanic eddies has become an important factor in understanding cyclone intensity.
