Equinox means equal day and night, but not for a few days
Description: The equinox occurs at the same moment world wide, because it is determined by the Earth's position in its orbit around the sun. The sun shines directly on the equator and, for that moment, the northern and southern hemispheres receive equal amounts of sunlight. This equality is most visible in satellite images showing the terminator between day and night equally distributing sunlight to the northern and southern hemispheres. [Source: WRAL (Raleigh, N.C.)]
