Dr. Jude Apple's efforts in public outreach are funded largely by COSEE Pacific Partnerships and other federally
funded grants. While the University of Washington does not provide direct financial support for these efforts,
Shannon Point Marine Lab – where Jude works – is part of the University system. The Lab itself views outreach as a
way to effectively communicate about the research activities taking place at Shannon Point, and why these activities
are significant to the public. Shannon Point research is of particular interest to the surrounding community, as the
public has a heightened awareness of multiple impacts on coastal environments. Jude's goal is to build institutional
support by demonstrating positive results through exciting, transformative projects outside of traditional settings.
