Climate Literacy Principle 2E: Life - including microbes, plants, and animals - is a major driver of the global carbon cycle and can influence global climate by modifying the chemical makeup of the atmosphere. The geologic record shows that life has significantly altered the atmosphere during Earth's history.

What Are Aerosols and How Do They Affect Climate Change? Hui Feng (scientist) and educators Carrie Armbrecht and Kate Leavitt

Dr. Feng started his map by putting aerosols in the middle. Dr. Feng states, “Aerosols are connected to climate change by changing solar radiation, either directly or indirectly", and he placed examples of this in his map. His team decided to make their consensus map with 8th graders in mind and made the wording generally more user friendly. They felt that targeting this group will allow each team member to tailor the content up/down for different audiences. They altered the focus question, reorganized the map, and added a color-coded legend. They added two new concepts that are familiar to most people: air quality and greenhouse gases. Likewise, they noted that people are affected by aerosols and can do something to mitigate their impacts to the climate.
