The ocean is a vast and almost entirely untapped source of energy and has the potential to be a leading alternative source of clean, renewable power. In this webinar series, a group of engineers and planning specialists take a closer look at the oceans and how science and technology can be used to pursue sustainable energy projects such as wind and tidal power.

This free, three-part webinar series introduces the fundamentals of ocean energy, discusses how energy project sites are selected and assessed for their environmental impacts.

January 24, 2017 - 7:00 pm ET
The first webinar in the Ocean Energy Webinar Series provides a broad overview of the myriad ways the ocean can be tapped for a clean and renewable source of energy. A discussion of technologies in development as well as the process from getting an idea from paper into production.

John Miller - Executive Director - Marine Renewable Energy Collaborative (MRECo)
Maggie Merril - Director of Marketing and Communications - Marine Renewable Energy Collaborative

January 31, 2017 - 7:00 pm ET
The second webinar in the Ocean Energy Webinar Series is Location, Location, Location. Like the old real-estate mantra, where you put an ocean energy project can spell the difference between its success and failure. Learn from three presenters how they use technology to determine where ocean energy projects such as tidal energy turbines can be placed.

N. David Bethoney - Research Assistant Professor, UMass Dartmouth School for Marine Science & Technology
Diana Krupa CEO of WaterCube
Johnathan Colby -Director of Technology Performance - Verdant Power

Classroom Resources
February 7, 2017 - 7:00 pm ET
Educators will lead a discussion of what teachers have done to incorporate ocean energy and technology into their classes. An open discussion will be available for brainstorming implementation strategies.

Liesl Hotaling - Marine Technology Society (MTS)
