On October 18th, COSEE Ocean Systems and the Institute for Broadening Participation continued the "Many Learning Pathways in Ocean Sciences" webinar series with a presentation centered on ways to build a supported community of scientific mentors for scientists-in-training from underrepresented audiences, where education of both the mentor and mentee is emphasized.

Sharon Ziegler-Chong and Noelani Puniwai present their experiences and "lessons learned" in building and maintaining a sustained community of mentors, and share their tools and techniques for engaging mentors before, during and after student-focused internships. The Pacific Island Programs for Exploring Science (PIPES) program - which provides undergraduate conservation internship programs that engage more island youth in career exploration and leadership development related to Hawaii's insular environments - is featured.
